Drupal 8 release is getting close. It is best to start converting now to have a release available to people when they upgrade.

I wrote a sandbox which makes a start on this. Needs some clean up and a fair amount of work but it's a working MVP.

I have contacted the maintainer for the module to see if they will create a 8.x branch to work against.

Once that is done I suggest you submit a patch to get it up to date.
