Hi everyone
I would like to know if there is any tutorials showing how to create courses (with different components: videos, images, pdfs...) using Drupal CIS....I'm new to this distro and I'm afraid I'm a little bit confused
Thank you
Cheers

It is confusing and probably will be for a bit as documentation sadly falls low on the ladder for a lone wolf. I won't be lone wolf in the near future so that'll start to come back into the fold I'm hoping.

CIS is a data management and marketting system. It is intended for merging your front facing presence for a course portfolio with the data needed to actually create course spaces to work in. It relies on backend automation scripts (included w/ CIS) to allow for setting up drupal sites automatically. These spaces can then talk back to the CIS to do things like roster and section management over time.

If you are looking to build out a course and want access to the tools to outline and what not, I suggest checking out the MOOC distribution. It is our course outline creation arm of the suite of tools that I'm building. MOOC is mostly just a collection of modules from contrib (a lot of them) that are installed and configured well out of the box so you can get up and running. The primary module that people are interested in with that platform is the outline designer.

Thank your for the reply
Well, if I understand well, the CIS distribution is intended to "manage" courses made with the MOOC distribution, so it's not really possible to create a course using the CIS, is it?
From what I read, I've understood that the CIS ditribution is intended to create a course for "a group" of people with supervisor (a sort of administrator) and it also allow having access to courses created with the CLE distribution via some specific connector, finally, it's with the MOOC distribution that we can build out courses and put them online for the public. Please correct me if I'm wrong and make me know if there are any links or sites that I should visit and read.

Thanks again
Cheers

That's mostly correct. CIS is for marketing and promotion of courses for a college, as well as provide the data behind the scenes to help ease setup and management for staff of the college. All distributions being developed (10 planned in all as of this writing) are being created to be stand alone, obviously built to play nicely with the CIS network through the CIS connector but also intended to be able to be a starting point for people to deploy without the need for the full network.

MOOC is intended for mixed authentication methods because it's just Drupal. MOOC is pulling from contrib heavily and is light on system specific functionality. This is a goal of ELMS, to influence the Drupal contributed module community and improve it as a whole while meeting its goals of being educational.

As for media / where to learn more I talk about these concepts and show implements:
http://vimeo.com/60084560 -- Using Drupal to Transform Education talks through the ELMS Suit of Distributions and demonstrates them working together.
