I was able to install CiviCRM_StarterKit with a drop created by the guys at Pantheon flawlessly.
In a traditional CiviCRM_StarterKit installation does the option of creating an independent database for CiviCRM data exist?

Because of the way Pantheon pushes a single db from dev -> test -> live, keeping the Drupal tables and CiviCRM in separate databases is not possible at this time. If Pantheon starts supporting multiple databases, we'll add support for that. Using a single database for both Drupal and CiviCRM has a few cons, but we've found those are minor compared with the pros the Pantheon infrastructure offers.
