Latest recommended release and development release are missing features from
this patch https://drupal.org/files/issues/allowing-separate-formatter-and-parser-1... or commit http://drupalcode.org/project/http_client.git/commit/f0e56cb . Its supposed to have been committed in release 7.x.2.3.

Has this feature been removed (allow HttpClient to use different HttpClientFormatters for serialization and parsing) for a specific reason ?

I guess they were replaced by CompositeFormatter : http://drupalcode.org/project/http_client.git/blob/refs/heads/7.x-2.x:/i... .
I am using it for my own project - and it works nice.
