I was wondering if it's safe to update views and views slideshow to 3.x version, seeing that 1.x is quite old and could soon go unsupported.

Do you think I can manually add the updated module?

I just backed the datebase up using

https://drupal.org/project/backup_migrate

Then deleted the view 1x module
and replaced it with views 3x

So far everything seem's to be working fine!

Thanks! Updated safely.
There wasn't neither a db upgrade.

I would suggest the maintainer to update Views/Views Slideshow version in next releases of the distribution.
