First, may I say what a superb piece of engineering this module is. Beautiful stuff.

Now, my problem is indeed that, it is not necessarily an Edit ‘issue’ and certainly not a ‘bug’ but something that is worth bringing to your attention and gathering opinions on.

I am using DISPLAY SUITE to give many of my Teaser displays (for a content type called Component) a LEFT / RIGHT split and for this I use a ‘Two column’ Layout.

In Structure » Manage display » teaser I configure DISPLAY SUITE configured to use a ‘Two column’ layout do what I want and provide a (50%/50% default) LEFT / RIGHT split.

When I view the node in Teaser flavour, all is well and I see the node as I should.

HOWEVER. When I go to Edit the node inline using this module, it too respects the 50% width and only gives me an editor that wide.

PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED SCREENSHOT.
Of course I understand that it is ‘right’ for the Edit module to behave in this way but any suggestions warmly welcomed.

Thanks

The Drupal 8 backport (#2111667: Backport Drupal 8's Edit module to Drupal 7) might have fixed this! Please test again with the latest version.

From #2168725: [META] Add support for in-place editing entity types other than Node:

To get a 1.0 stable release of Edit out the door, a scope has been determined:

  • support for in-place editing nodes
  • support for using Edit in combination with Panels pages to do page layouts

Otherwise, Edit would probably be in a perpetual beta, in order to test against all entity types in Drupal 7. Drupal 7's Entity API was a contrib afterthought, not part of Drupal core, hence there are lots of subtle problems — Edit has helped consolidate Entity API in Drupal 8.

Thank you for your understanding.

Is there any progress or interest for quick edit to work with DS layout fields?

There is interest I'm sure ;) But if I'm correct the maintainer claims it would take a massive rewrite to make it compatible with Quick Edit:
