I need someone to have a look at a production server and tell me if they can determine what might be causing an initially long connection time on our server. The pages render quickly, but the initial request can take up to 10 seconds.
This is a quick job where I am looking to have someone look through the configs and logs and make a recommendation on what the issue might be.

Sounds like this is not hapening always but only sometime.
Is it possible, that there is a cron run involved? If so, I suggest to turn off cron runs from with the Drupal framework and push that down to the server level using a crontab to either call the cron.php or drush.
