combining image field and multi value media field to output as different rows in slideshow

I've got a slideshow on my nodes pulling from a multi value media field. However, now I need to add the (single value) Featured Image field that serves as the icon for each node to the slideshow. When I add it as a field, it doesn't work, because the first row has two images. I can't add it as a header, because it wouldn't be wrapped in the slideshow code. I've tried to figure out how to add it via the theme templates, but having no luck there.

What can I do? I would appreciate any help or pointers.
