i believe that it would be useful to have an Album be able to optionally aggregate all the artwork (including "Artwork Media") of its Tracks and use it as the Album's artwork (basically the reverse of a what is possible with Tracks i.e. Tracks can optionally inherit or override the artwork of its Album).

besides the obvious benefit of having the artwork for all of an Album's Tracks automatically added to the Album's display, this would also be useful in 2 cases i can think of:

  1. an Album is created with Tracks that each have a particular set of artwork but the site chooses to only display the Album, not the Tracks alone. this feature would allow the artwork to be stay where it belongs, with the Tracks, but be available for display in the Album
  2. compilations, remixes, etc. Albums where the artwork is different for each Track, while the Album simply has a cover or nothing at all; this would make available a richer gallery of artwork for the Album's display automatically

currently, to achieve the same result one would have to manually add all the artwork from a Track to its Album by hand, as well as synchronize any edits.

finally, the Album could also define its own artwork and this would be added to the combination of all the Tracks' artwork (if the aggregation was enabled), though taking precedence (it would be displayed first and thus the first image artwork defined on the Album would be the cover).

note this issue does not deal with the display of the artwork, though an option would be a gallery with popup Colorbox/etc.

perhaps this could be done with a View, at least the selection of the Tracks' artwork?

peace

Could you achieve what you want by modifying the album tracklist view to show the individual track artwork in the view?

I'm also a little unclear if this is only for the core Artwork fields or is this an extension of: #2103391: Additional Media Feature
