It only supports the Google Chart Tools: Image Charts (https://developers.google.com/chart/image/). Image charts was deprecated by Google on April 20, 2012 with April 20, 2015 as the shutdown date; details: https://developers.google.com/chart/terms
It needs a full re-write to support any other charting system, include the Google JS-based charts. I suggest you look at getting a D8 port of https://drupal.org/project/charts or something else from this list: https://groups.drupal.org/node/93064

13rac1 CreditAttribution: 13rac1 commentedSure! Your post reminded me the project page didn't contain the API deprecation details, so I've just updated it.
Also check out: https://drupal.org/project/charts_graphs Many people/projects need a module to can display charts with Drupal. Hopefully someone can step forward to work on this.

Also thanks for charts_graphs, will check it out.

This also because more and more I'm getting convinced that just moving from chart to charts (before the famous april 2015 deadline) is not the only alternative we should consider offering to existing chart users.
