This is a fresh install. However, I am returned to the same page when I attempt to login with:

username: admin
password: password

If I enter the URL,

http://localhost/index.php?q=user

then I am able to login and the administrative interface is presented. I know the fix for this is simple.
How do I correct this?

for those still having problem with this issue, maybe you can check if clean URLs is enable or not.
