Since the php version is wrong in update.php I was able to install the alpha 6 release on a server running PHP 5.3.10 and ran into a PHP fatal error when enabling blocks on line 272 of block.module. According to the System Requirements page PHP 5.4 or higher is required. Updating my server to PHP 5.4 resolved the fatal error that I was having.

longwaveThis will be done in #2152073: Bump Drupal core's PHP requirement to 5.4.2 but that is currently blocked by #2135199: Provide php 5.4 testing on testbots for D8 code without breaking everything else
