Show footer message only if resultset goes to more than one page

From what I can see, it's not possible to resolve the problem of the pager splitting records when you use a grouping field (see https://drupal.org/node/1325692). Because of this, in my view I've put a footer message saying "If more than one page of results is shown, the last record listed may not show all fields, so please click 'next' to see if there are more fields for the record". Can anyone tell me what the PHP "if" statement would need to be to only show the message if the resultset runs to more than one page?
