Agreed about the need for a new release. It's been over a year since the last stable release. Fortunately there's good traffic on the -dev branch. I've suggested that this should happen yearly for popular modules like this #2186377: Highlight projects that follow Best Practices but I'm really not sure what can arbitrarily be evaluated.

@killua99 this project is listed as needing a co-maintainer. This is no small task, but this is an important call for support from the maintainer. I don't know what incentives might be useful. I've proposed a few like #2138397: Highlight Flattr, Paypal or Whatever Opportunities on Issue Pages & #2177459: Highlight Supporting Organizations in the Issue Queue

Ultimately it is about finding the incentives to see that this is a priority for a developer with the responsibility & rights to keep up with the issue queue, documentation & who has the time to test & make regular releases.
