Pages full of strange characters after update to 7.26

Anyone else experience this? After updating to 7.26 from 7.22, and before running updates, all pages are full of strange characters below the footer, and the front-end maintenance page has nothing but these characters.

Administration menu also wasn't working, but I was able to navigate to /admin/config/development/performance and clear the cache, which appeared to fix the problem...

However, I'm not sure if the problem is actually fixed, or if there's something off with my installation. I've never seen this, and I've performed countless Drupal upgrades over the years.

Note. This is a VPS server, which I don't have much experience with.
