I would like to have an upcoming events and a future events page. How would I go about doing that? I tried going through views, but the date filter doesn't have a > operator. Wondering what my options are.

The date views submodule (of date) should provide that filter functionality.

Not that when this filled openpublic event was a separate app, but now is included with openpublic core.
