Integration of Statuses with Heartbeat.

I have the Heartbeat module installed and templates setup (from scratch, i.e. default template module not activated) and Statuses. Rules manage the activities.

All works well when the administrator views the site activity stream. All status activiy display as intended.

But authenticated users (i.e.: non-administrators) can only see the node activity (their own and others') as I have a template and rule for nodes too. But they do not see the status messages.

It looks like a permission issue but I have given all permissions I could think of but still, they do not show.

Does anyone know what I am missing? It's got to be something extra simple, but I just don't see it.

(The display is managed by Display Suite and a view is created on top of that. To allow more flexibility, the view displays fields and not the built in Heartbeat activity option.)
