Hi,

More than half a year ago, I contacted the Dutch translation team of Drupal to offer help. I asked them to delegate some .po files to me by sending the latest versions via email. I do this to prevent double work and to prevent translating strings that are changed in CVS.

Badly enough, I didn't received the requested files :-( As a result, I was not motivated anymore to translate Drupal (and I started translating other software that are more translator friendly).

A while ago, I read on the forums of Psi ( psi.sf.net ) that they wanted to migrate to Drupal for their website. They also asked people to translate Drupal into their language. Because another guy said he would do that, I wanted to try again translating Drupal.

Nowadays it seems the Dutch translation team of Drupal is death (correct me if I am wrong) and nothing changed yet... :-(

So, if the Drupal project wants me as a translator, they have to create an automatically update system like KDE has e.g.:
http://developer.kde.org/documentation/misc/whatisscripty.php

The only thing I need is a set of up-to-date nl.po files. Then I can open them in Kbabel, translate them, and send them in.

PO files are available from the download page.

Point me to the Dutch .po files of 4.6.0 with new and changed strings in them then. I want to translate such a file; I don't want to start every time again from zero by using the English version of a new release. This is what Scripty does: it makes life of translators easier. And an easier life for translators results in more translators (including me). I won't translate Drupal if I can't download somewhere .po files based on older translations and with new (marked as new) and changed strings (marked as fuzzy) in it...

hi

there is already such a script:

http://drupal.org/drupal-pot

the file is called extractor.php or something similar. but it is not run on the drupal cvs-server, you have to use it localy ... it only requires tokenizer extension of php.

but the idea that it performs extraction and merging of new string automatically is really nice. kille, what do you think?

If you have old translation and new empty pot files, just use msgmerge:

msgmerge old.po new.pot > new.po

We are now a couple of month later with a new server with plenty of processing power. Why not implement this system, so we volunteer translators don't have to reinvent the wheel every time some modules are updated? It would be much easier when every module automatically has its po folder with an automatically updated .pot file. If the merge process would be automatic we could just concentrate on what we are good at: translating.

I've been looking at several options and I think that installign pootle on our servers would be worthwhile. I will discuss this in Amsterdam. However, the donated hardware isn't fully set up yet, so it might take a while.

Any advancement with Pootle? The hardware should now be fully set up, I assume, and and software seems very instesting.
