Email reports can be used to send timely information to a population. Often the same report will be generated over and over again at different times to the same people. I would like the ability to save email subject and body text associated with an email report so that I can re-use the same text (maybe with some minor edits) in a future mailing. Business processes that rely on annual notifications, quarterly reporting, etc will benefit from this functionality.

I don't quite understand the difference between this and a normal form letter? Normally you'd create a report that took mandatory paramaters for the email and implement them in the report, rather than prompting for a subject body. Am I missing something here?

Attempt to get this issue resolved somehow ... Looking at sample report reports/drupaladmin/sample_active_users_letter.frx, it appears to me that by cloning it into some custom version of that report, such clone could be used as a TEMPLATE with an appropriated eMail subject and body text (saved in that template). Optionally such clone (template) could also be reworked as it related to layout, css, etc. In future mailings that template (custom report) can then be used with the very same eMail subject and body text, though such future mailing might then be eMailed to potentially a different list of eMail IDs, depending on whatever the query criteria in the report are. Maybe multiple eMail templates might be needed, eg with a different subject/body context, or with another set of query criteria to identify the target eMail IDs. In that case I'd just create a specific clone of these reports for each of the required templates.

Note: I think the title of this subject is misleading also, I think it should read something like "How to create templates for eMail reports?".

Is this an acceptable solution for this issue? If so any other reason why we would want to keep this issue open?

No the author knows how to do that. IF you don't include the body of an email report it will prompt you for it, still using the data block to get the list of senders. The author is suggesting that when you get prompted for that he want the ability to have the last thing he sent saved as a default, so that he can tweak it before sending again. actually know what's being requested here (the requests comes from someone I work with). Lets keep this open for now.

PS I should've updated the issue queue after I had a face to face chat with the person who filed this.

Adding a parent link here as a reference to the issue I created to work on producing docu about eMail merge, checkout #2363691: Document available eMail features to track the progress of it.

Thanks for the update in #3 (and #4), which at least makes my status change in #2 inappropriate of course (sorry for that). Anyway, interesting hidden feature you mentioned in #3 that I wasn't aware about. I'm assuming that there is no reason to continue it to be a hidden feature, and hence that it is OK to have added that parent link. If not please correct again ...
