Hello,
I am basically a WordPress developer and never worked on drupal platform. can someone tell me what is the difference between these 2 applications ?? and which is better you prefer for a rapid website development??

If you just Google you will find lots of resources where many people have compared these two.

In my opinion, it depends upon requirements. If wordpress fits your requirements, just go for it. But Drupal is heavily customization.

Agreed. In addition you might do a Google search for this site only. We have discussed this in numerous threads, & I have written a lot about it in other threads, so opening an additional discussion on the topic may not the most useful approach to carrying on the discussion.

The word "Rapid Development" may be different between WP world and Drupal Universe.

In WP World 80 hours of development is WOW take too long while in Drupal Universe 80 hours of development is Meh peanuts!.

so what is the target for your "Rapid development"?

Yes it depends on the requirements.but i will prefer drupal because it's developer friendly and stable.

Even I am a WordPress developer and created many sites in WordPress but it depends on what you're working on? Could you be specific on what development your working on?

Its depends on the project requirement. Drupal quit complex in comparision of WP but drupal is more secure and very good role basis permission management feature. I think this link will be helpfull to you.

Consider also the security of your site: in a wordpress site (every release) you can know the user names in about 2 minutes, drupal is musch more secure!
