Having a label as the only way to choose between displays isn't that user friendly, it'd be really awesome if the UX presented a set of thumbnails for each display that the content creator could select from instead.

Of course, the big question is how the thumbnails could be attached to the display definition? Clearly it would be awkward to manage.

At the very least a description field could be added and then display each item as a grid of title & description.
