undefined function theme() in professional_theme.theme on line 32

I'm testing drupal 8.0-alpha10.
professional_theme 8.x-1.0-dev does after installation the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function theme() in C:\xampp\htdocs\xxx\themes\professional_theme\professional_theme.theme on line 32

unfortunately D8 development has stalled. im trying to do a complete rewrite of the theme which will include a D8 version, but its a ways off.
