I have an install of 7 everything is up to date. Without my knowledge Taxonomy Access Control was turned on and configured. Turning off and uninstalling Taxonomy Access appears to be leaving something behind, because every time I turn on Forum Access I get access denied on every non-admin page except the home page. No amount of rebuilding permission, removing and uninstalling modules, rebuilding permissions, publishing and unpublishing content has done anything to change this effect when turning on Forum Access. Using a cleaner copy of the same code base without any TAC configuration, this modules works as expected. So this message is more a warning for anyone trying to install FA after they have installed and configured TAC.

If anyone knows a way to recover the build that would be might handy :)

I had Taxonomy Access previously and now I switched to Forum Access and everything works as desired. You might have had something else that caused your issue.
