Problem/Motivation

The change record for #1852454: Restrict module and theme name lengths to 50 characters references a couple techniques for upgrading modules from D7 to D8 if their names are longer than 50 characters:
https://drupal.org/node/2014073

It assumes updates will be run on the same site.

Proposed resolution

Update the change record to explain how modules that need to be renamed should provide migrations.

Asked Moshe if there's anything in particular these modules would need to do other than renaming the D8 versions to do the migrations, and he said no. So that's easier.

Um... What needs to be added then? I'm confused...

The entire "upgrading existing sites" section is wrong.

I keep seeing this issue because it is tagged, 'migration'. Today I finally spent some time reading the CR and the original issue to figure out what needs to be changed. I didn't find anything in my skim of the issue that identifies what actions on must take when renaming a module that has a long name or why the CR is incorrect.

Can anyone explain in detail what is incorrect in the CR?
