Media bulk upload for fields.

I was a bit confused, as I thought media bulk upload was not working. However after reading another issue, I found that it was working at ../file/add

Should it not work anywhere a media field type is being used?
I understand this functionality is in media_multiselect, however it is not being maintained in sync with media 2.x development therefore is broken. I have found the media_multiselect to be very important to the usability of the media module, should the idea of media_multiselect be a submodule of media as media_bulk_upload is?
