Software Foundation Fiji

Software Foundation (Fiji) is a non-profit organisation which aims to provide support and awareness in the use and development of software in Fiji. The major focus of the foundation is on free open source software (FOSS). The foundation was established in September 2010 and registered as a non-profit organisation in April 2012.

Aims of the Software Foundation are to:

• Increase computer literacy in Fiji
• Increase awareness and provide support in training, development and research in information and communication technologies (ICT) in Fiji.
• Build a close network of local and international experts Encourage Fiji software companies to compete and collaborate globally.
• Provide training and support and increase awareness on free-open source software (FOSS).
• Improve the education sector so that state-of-the-art knowledge of ICT is transmitted to our younger generation through teaching and research at tertiary level education.
• Provide free training and ICT support to the local community including the elderly and disabled.
  Objectives

Objectives

• Provide support to Ministry of Education in curriculum development and reviews of software and hardware for teaching in schools.
• Run specialized training and workshops
• Invite or hire experts locally or from abroad to conduct specialized training and workshops.
• Purchase computers and laptops for primary and secondary schools.
• Establish an Information Technology Institute which will be used to deliver free Computer Literacy classes to the general public. This institute will also become the main office of SFF.
• Run free workshops on computer software for the disabled people.
• Establish technical support teams at various centers in Fiji to provide free technical support on software and ICT to the general public.
• Provide scholarships to secondary and tertiary school students.
• Fund cutting edge research in computer science and engineering.
• Provide certification for basic training in software and computer literacy.
• Run research and programming competitions for secondary and tertiary level students.
