Can you do any sort of calculation with numerical data in these tables?

Yes I can - thank you very much ;o) Version 2 has 'pluggable' entry types and the monetary and numeric types both have options to include 'totals' at the bottom of their columns. Plus, as the new tables are built in a better sql type way - I can easily create all sorts of new entry types without having to alter the base tablemanager code at all, this opens the way for proper almost spreadsheet-type sql queries on numeric data (I say *almost* because obviously you're still only creating tables, they aren't proper user entry cells like spreadsheets are). Anyways, yep it's coming - it's just very low on my list of priorities at the moment. In fact if anything I'm more likely to port the current 5.x branch to 6.x than finish off the 2.x branch...

Interesting.

I'm looking for a way to take event signup data and score people that came to that event....and then take scores from various events and combine that into a series scoring.

I thought this module could help but am doubting it....could it?

Too bad about you not finishing it off and just porting it to v6. My site is heavily entrenched in v5 modules and I could see it taking a LONG time for all the modules to be supported in v6 (if ever). I understand the time it takes to develop this stuff tho (and appreciate it).

Ah now see I'm developing Tablemanager V2 *in* 6.x so it wouldn't be a whole lot of good for you anyway! I'm going to back port it to 5.x, but I'm more interested in looking forward than back... That said, it really sounds like you'd be better off with something custom built anyway? Version 2 won't be able to automatically take data from other modules without extra code (admittedly it'll be easier to do in the new version) although the calculations function it has would be perfect for the scoring I think... I'm sorry I haven't got better news for you though, I have absolutely no time at all at the moment as work is insane (it's UK Budget day today as well, so todays been particularly frantic...) I'm trying my best!

Thanks,

Pobster

@mdowset -

your project sounds like something I'm trying to do. Have you made any headway?

My use is for sailing regattas. I've got a fair bit done, but have hit a hurdle using Profiles to gather signup data and then not having that available to nodes.

Would love to compare notes.

nope, no progress...I haven't actively looked in a long time but it's still a gaping hole in my website's plans.

Keep in touch if you make any progress.

@mdowsett

I've recently made some headway after being bogged down in just hunting for an avenue with promise - it took tromping down a lot of dead ends, and eventually shedding most of my goals so I could focus on the key problem: building a working scoring tool.

In the end I've scrapped the existing D5 site and have started over with D6, along with the CCK Computed Field module. (I believe everything so far can be backported, though - afaik I'm only using functionality that appears in both D5 and D6 versions). It's a surprisingly simple approach and works well at this (very early) point.

In order to share what I have done, and hopefully to create a space where people can collaborate/benefit from it, I've started Recipe: Site for Organizers of Sailing Regattas. Please come add your thoughts and observations there.
