Yeah a Drupal 8 version for this use case would make sense. Perhaps merge with https://www.drupal.org/project/passquickset ?

Two recent issues seem like they are worth a new 8.x-1.0-beta2 stable release: #2982534: Class 'Crypt' not found in genpass_password and #2983222: Wrong data type for the settings array. Once those are reviewed/committed I can make a new stable.
