Hi

I have been trying to figure out this module for days now and I simple can not work out whatthis module actually does and how it works.

I have followed the instructions step my step six times now and I can't get it to work.

What am I missing here?

What is this module exactly suppose to produce?

Post a link to the page where the gallery does not work for you, let us know what base folder you have in the settings, etc. Otherwise there is no way people can help you.

I think you are missing the point about everyone complaining here...

I can't post a link because I can't figure out what this module is suppose to actually do and how it works, I have followed the instructions step by step 6 times now but still the same result, I can't see what it actually does.

I have set up the folders on my server uploaded the pictures but now what do I do to get the gallery to show anywhere?

I am a total newbie to Drupal, everyone has to start some where but know one is willing to help a newbie.

Don't assume everyone is an expert in Drupal and knows what to do.

I have been trying for 5 day snow to get a simple gallery on my website and can't find one that I can get to work, this one included. I am a total beginner here.

You can mark this as fixed or closed if you want but I won't be wasting anymore time on a module that does not work after following the instructions over and over.

I have deleted this module from my website, and will be advising fellow newbies not to use this module as it doesn't work

Still you are not making it clear what does not work. Do you get any error message? Do you try to display at /brilliant_gallery or using a tag? What tag have you used? What is your main gallery folder? If you cannot show a link, post the html from that page, etc, etc. If you are getting lost with the instructions at http://www.vacilando.eu/bg then please say exactly what is not clear so that we can improve it. General complaining does not help you, only clear description of the problem.

Hi Squirel333,

Like you I am a newbie and not conversant with codes, tags etc....yet. BUT I downloaded the Brilliant Gallery module and followed the instructions. In doing so a block is automatically generated that looks like this:

http://www.streamlyne.com.au/node/75

This is a page on my site I set up as a test page...showing photos I took on a recent trip. It will show you what you should see when you apply the block. In my case I applied it to the content area and restricted it to show on this page only. So have a look in your blocks...it is probably lurking in there.

I'd love to know how you can have a different gallery showing on another page. At this stage I can only see how one gallery can be active at a time.

Also I don't know how to write tags for different pages so that the module can be applied directly to a node (or WHERE you do that).

BUT, I've got this far and if I can do it so can you....keep persevering.

Hi Squirrel,

you were even luckier than I was. You found the instructions which I didn't.
I thought there were none, until I found this thread.

Thing is, I downloaded the module from drupal.org (http://drupal.org/project/Modules/category/67)
and there I didn't realise that you can click on the title "Brilliant Gallery" (as it is in the same color as the text below), and the link "release notes" had no useful info.

I believe in putting important info to important places, highly visible... If someone reads this, please change that page so the titles are more obvious to be links. (Also, in that linked page, the instructions are hidden way down).

Like other users I downloaded the 6.x-1.2 official release, followed the step-by-step installation instructions complete with step 8 that only applies to v5(?) and then found myself wondering 'what?' since nothing seemed to have happened.

I was expecting some kind of page listing the galleries it had found in the folder I specified, maybe some kind of content type, some way to put specific galleries on specific pages.

Thanks to this thread, and going back and reading the rest of the instructions, I have learned that it creates a block, and there are also square bracket 'tags' you can use - snippets of code you put in the body field of one of your nodes for example, to output some gallery content.

The default block doesn't output anything for me. I guess maybe the default BG settings don't cause it to?

I tried creating a custom block and putting a square bracket bg tag in the body field of the block, set the input format to 'full html'. But the block just outputs the tag as text, no gallery.

Possibly this is a really good module, but the initial user experience is a bit difficult and in fact it seems not to work?

sorry, hope that didn't sound harsh

I meant to add, I am on Drupal 6.8, testing on Win XP

some more info:

I have installed Lightbox v2, and selected 'lightbox' as the 'Overlay browser' in brilliant_gallery settings
I have run update.php
I have cleared my drupal cache
In drupal 'File system' settings I have the files directory set to 'sites/default/files'
In brilliant_gallery settings I have the directory set to 'gallery'
I have copied a folder of photos to 'sites/default/files/gallery/my album/*.jpg'

In the block I put a tag [bg|my album] in the body field, but it just displays "[bg|my album]" on the page.

Heya. I agree that this module is a bit hard to set up, but if one follows the instructions available under "Read Documentation" on the project page, it is indeed possible, as many instances of the module being used prove.

@blueskiwi: You probably forgot to enable the BG tag for at least one of your input types. Go to admin/settings/filters and click on the configure link for the input type you would like to recognise BG tags. On the configure page go to the filters section and tick the checkbox next to "Brilliant Gallery Tag". Hit "Save" and BG should start working for you.
Oh, and don't use folders with a space on the internet, change the name from "my album" to "myalbum".

@stevelyne: Once you have done what I told blueskiwi to do, you can easily add a gallery to any content you create by using the BG tag. In any content type, add [bg|subfolder] (subfolder needs to be replaced by the name of the folder inside your gallery folder that contains the pictures you want to display). Voila, thumbnails will be displayed where you entered the tag, and clicking on the thumbnails will show the large version in a Lightbox.
You can even have folders inside the folders.
Examples:
My gallery folder is called "galleries". Inside "galleries" I have the folders "events" and "virtual tour". Inside "events" I have "olympics" and "socialnight". I can now create a page about the social night and simply add [bg|events/socialnight] and all images from the folder "socialnight" will be displayed as thumbnails that enlarge when clicked. The virtual tour is just a collection of images that I want to display as a gallery without any extra text. I can simply create a new page and write only [bg|virtualtour] into the body - I have created a simple image gallery.

@Squirrel333: Do you realise that Drupal and all contributed modules are open source software and largely developed by volunteers? I don't want to start any sort of turf war, but I was appalled by your second post. You posted about an issue and got a reply within three minutes. Indeed with your initial post it is impossible to offer any assistance. The module does work, so anyone trying to help you would need exact details about what you did so they can find out which step you have missed. Instead of appreciating the offered assistance you start victimising yourself and threatening to talk bad about this module. I find your behaviour completely out of order. Yes, this module is challenging for a newbie, but you can't expect to build a perfect website without any challenges and a learning curve along the way. I'd be thankful for the help in this learning process offered by volunteers (!).

Hey Krupp,

Thanks for the assist. Appreciate your time

hey, so I'm also a total newb with Drupal and I think I know where Squirrel is coming from - I'll try and articulate it a little better.

so I installed the model and followed the directions - activated everything, and everything is golden. I can access my page by going to /brilliant_gallery.

however - how do I make it so my users can upload their own pictures? I see that I can put my own photos in through my ftp program. but how do my members do this without uploading the pics through FTP?

for example, when I installed my "event" module, it created an "create event" option under my "create content". so my users can just click on that to add an event to the calender.

I think this can be done with this model. I think I'm just missing the boat - can this be done as simply with my members for them adding there photos?

thank you for your help!

I am having the same problem installed per instructions but I do not get any images just a black box where the images should be ... if i look images are being downloaded but not displayed

I am also getting a list of images on the manage gallery page but not showing any images next to the check boxes

Krupp’s picture

Hey Blakemanion,

This module does AFAIK not support users uploading pictures but only displays pictures that are already on your server (uploaded by you via FTP).
If you want users to be able to upload pictures you might want to look at IMCE, but I don't have an idea how to integrate it with BG.

Cheers
