hey guys im in a band , and i run our site , were about to head out on tour and it looks like drupal would be an easy way to keep our site updated ( cus now its the old fashioned html and then upload it , wich i can only do from my pc wich has my web page maker on it ) becus of its bloggin and things like that , im not really sure how it works just yet becus im not the best in programming or anything like that , but i would nee the ability to do some password protection for a street team section of the site and thats about it . besides that i do my own graphics n all .the main question for me was i have my own domain n space already at burningtheory.com , and our site is live and running on it , i would like to play around with drupal for awhile before i really make the switch , so is it possible for me to upload it to my space and get it running but have it hidden ( like if i went to burningtheory.com it wouldnt take me to my drupal page instead of my index.html ) from everyone else who dont know the link. i was just wandering , i appreciate your guys's time , and sorry if i make no sense becus im not the best at this stuff.

I have tended to install Drupal on hosting services allow me to add 1 or more subdomains from some form a control panel.

So while the real site starts with www, I set up a test site with a subdomain of test. So if your domain is yourdomain.com and your current site is at www.yourdomain.com your test site would be at test.yourdomain.com.

Suggestion, if your hosting service allows at least two subdomain also add one for orig (or what ever you want) This way when you are ready to go live with drupal move the contents of www.yourdomain.com to orig.yourdomain.com which allows you to keep a backup copy of the original site.
Then copy (or move) test.yourdomain.com to www.yourdomain.com, edit sites/default/settings.php to reflect the new value of $base_url. Advantage of making a copy is in the future if you want to try a new module you can try it first on the test site to make sure it works for you.

www.yoursite.com/drupal and not publish it.
Drupal would be perfect for you. You can post directly through the web page or you could post usign a bloggin client like w.blogger.

Street Team - You could create a Street Team Group using Organic Groups, and only ST people could see that part of the site.

You could have other Groups for Fans, or even Regional (if you have enough fans to justify it).

Event Module for your calendar/events etc

As a band, be aware of the power of an available clip - see www.egglistings.com Gig Sounds for example (for bands giging locally soon plays clips that the bands have on their sites - their bandwidth, not ours! But it's their gig after all, not ours).

BTW www.egglistings.com is a Drupal Site
