Active menu items when editing book pages

are on as Black (or what ever the color of your theme is in this example Garland) but when you edit the book page that Black goes away.
So the user can no longer look to the left and see the book page they are on in relation to the rest of the navigation.
This also effects the expansion of the navigation tree.
Attached are some images.
Before I click Edit image is someone navigating the book the active link is highlighted.
But
Image two shows after they click Edit that Active highlight goes away.
Is it possible to make it remain?
This also happens if you click Add Child page. The entire navigation collapses.
But this may be a different issue?
