JeroenTDrupal 9 compatibility seems to be fixed a while ago, so we can probably create a new Drupal-9 compatible release and leave the porting info.

At the moment 8.x-1.x branch & 2.x branch have the same HEAD so a new 3.x branch shouldn't be needed.
Marking this as ready for review.
If anyone from community feels otherwise, feel free to mark 'needs work', otherwise would appreciate RTBC.

you need to create a 2.0.x release and this issue could be closed.
