Ok, first off... thank you! I've had such a difficult time since there isn't a Drupal 6.x version of ImageField_Gallery module. Second, I think it's almost perfect for my blog.

I'd just like to issue a feature request:

a) emm... have you considered a user interface option where we could choose how many thumbnail teasers to add on the frontpage?

b) Also, if it was ever considered linking the full size image within the node instead of linking it to a blank webpage? maybe giving admin the option to configure the size of the full size image and which blocks to hide so that the fullsize image fits perfectly within the container of the blog?

c) And once the full size image is clicked, it goes back to the full node with the post and the image gallery.

Those are just the thoughts I had that would make a fantastic module even better!!!!

Thank you so much,
Valerie :)

Hey,
Glad you like the module and it works for you.

a) Great idea, I was thinking of making a square of 4 images in the teaser. How does that sound?

b) I like the full size image being a pure image so people can download it if they need to print it. Maybe original would be better label than full size?

c) I am confused now if you click on the link that says full size it should just display the original image. No html no links, you would need to click back to get back to the medium size image page. If you can maybe include some links.

Thanks again for the suggestion please let me know any more you have.

Cheers
Baldy.

Hi Baldy,

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I think that a) sounds terrific! What about a square (horizontal strip?) of 4 or 5 image thumbnails (teasers) on the frontpage underneath the text of the post? That would look really good.

I see where you're coming from in terms of b) and c). I still like the label full size and it would be really nice if visitors could link back to the post (node) instead of hitting the back button in the browser. It would also be great to keep visitors feeling like they're still in your blog... if the full size link sends visitors to another web page with all the css and html, but (blocks in columns could be hidden or not depending on the size of the image admin would like to use as full size).

hmmm... What do you think about adding an option where admin could choose either the label "full size" with the link just suggested or the label "original image" with it's current link... to a webpage where only the original image is displayed, good for downloading?

What do you think? I look very much forward to hearing from you!

Thank you,
Valerie :)

Cool, I will write some code this weekend and let you know when there is a dev version for you to try.

Hi Baldy,

Fantastic! I can't wait to try it out.

Thanks so much,
Valerie :)

I just committed some code, it might take some hours but will be available here -> http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/pblog-6.x-1.x-dev.tar.gz
Or as the development snapshot.

I have added an option to display 4 images in the teaser, I really like it. Does not look exactly how I expected but its still pretty cool. What do you think?

It should be running on my site if you want to see it in action http://www.baldy.za.net

I am not sure how to make it more configurable. For example how would you display 5 images?

Give it a test and let me know what you think.

Baldy.

Hey!

I just uploaded it, noticed the new configurations in the user interface (nice!) and created a new content type (pblog), uploaded a .tar file full of Christina Ricci pics, and I don't know why, but it didn't work for me. I must be doing something wrong. I got the following error messages (print screens below).

I checked out your blog, and saw the 4 thumbnail teasers in your post and totally agree... it looks really good! I'm running Drupal 6.5. Maybe this is why I had trouble?

Ooh! I don't know how to make it so that there's 5 thumbnail teasers on the frontpage, but that would be great. It would also be brilliant if all the images' thumbnail teasers were visible on the frontpage, but in horizontal rows below the text that's just beneath the main pic. That would really look amazing!!!

Thanks so much for your coding progress... I'll talk to you soon!

Hey Baldy,

I just played around with it, and instead of uploading a .tar, I uploaded a .zip. I'm working on a MAC, and automatically thought that the zip mean't tar LOL So, it works well :) It uploaded all 9 pics and made the thumbs, and the medium size images... with the kickass gallery. I'll upload the screenshot for your view.

And... it had all 9 thumbs in the teaser! So cool. I hope you have a fantastic day tomorrow and I look forward to hearing from you about future tweaks.

Thanks,
Valerie

Hi again,

This is my last comment... I swear :P I didn't realize that if you don't publish the post, working in draft mode, that it doesn't show you what the frontpage view is. So, when I published it, I saw that the 2x2 cube was next to the main image of the post, which was good. But, it was pushing the righthandside columns out since now, the image was too wide (original post image plus the cube next to it). So, I worked on it this weekend, and tweaked the code a bit. It now does what I want, and the thumbnails are underneath the post text.

But, I had to manually add in the thumbnails myself, but it didn't take long (copy and paste the imgurl for one thumbnail and then repeat... and quickly change each pic's number @ the end for each one of the copied thumbnails in the rich-text editor TinyMCE). I also had to manually scale the images myself in ImageReady. Not ideal, but it only takes 2 mins.

I've also made it so that when you click on the main image in the gallery, it now loads the fullsize image inside the context of the blog (with css and html)... instead of a path to the .jpg. and nothing else.

So, in short, I'm thrilled... the gallery and thumbnails are done and it looks phenomenal!

Thanks so much for everything.
Valerie :)

Great, glad you got it working the way you wanted.
In the next release you will be able to rebuild the images. So you can change the image sizes in the admin section then rebuild the node which will resize the images for you. I have also added the option of having 4 images in the block for the side bar.

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback, always welcome.

Just to let you know, I have just committed to CVS a new version with a block that supports 4 images the same as the teazer. Not sure if you use this on your site. It should be available as a dev snapshot within 24 hours.

As always its is already running on my site on the right hand side http://www.baldy.za.net

Cheers
Baldy
