Most node payment modules, like e_commerce, Ubercart and LM PayPal, handle node publication and user communication based on account status. To use them with ed_classified, one or both modules must be hacked to synchronize the systems, or to disable one so the user is not getting duplicate notifications.

The attached patch gives the developer the option of disabling the scheduling and notification system in ed_classified so the node payment system can take over without changes to either module. Without the 'opt-out', ed_classified defaults to work as designed.

I just want to be clear: this patch will allow different expiration dates based on the users 'paid' status? So unpaid goes 7days and paid goes 15 or whatever?

I cannot get this patch to install. I'm getting all kinds of fail :(
Can you help me get this sucker installed?
Much obliged,

JR, did you have any success with this? Despite being unmaintained the classified ad module is quite good. It lacks a payment system. The e-commerce option is more attractive till we get classified ads up to D6. It really seems a big hole in Drupal not having a cool classad module. I will try to make payments work over the next few days. Any positive news is welcome.

Actually, I did get this installed, but I'm not using it currently. I had to modify the code for the classified ads modules to be able to take care of some other business.

To me it seems that more modules are what we need. It seems that the way to go is not "how can we make classified ads link to payment?" but rather "how can we get users to pay for ANY content in drupal?"

There are myriad ways to do Ecommerce, the biggest being the UberCart modules, and all the things that go with that. Those are really too big for a simple "pay for content" model.

I tried to take this approach with my programmer on the creation of users from the content creation (of the ads) page... however, he felt it was easier (and therefore cheaper) to just modify the ed_classifed module.

I'd be happy to share that code with the community if someone wants to figure a way to create a module.

Sorry, I'm getting a bit off topic /digression

Please keep me informed. If you want to take this discussion off-line please feel free to email me.
