Published the DRUPAL CA/EN bid on http://www.thecentralmall.com/

Through our European FP6-IST OS funded projects
We have build around 100 basic website with DRUPAL and CMS/CFP.
Now we have two projects
- WEKOMS Drupal towards a KWMS
- DRUPAL CA/EN
As you know Catalonia is launching the domain .CAT for all Catalan speaking community
We suppose approximately 7-10M. This means lots of new websites with bi-language needs, at least EN/CA, ES/CA or better three languages CA/ES/EN. I realize of similar problems in Quebec with FR/EN

In order to promote the diffusion of the Catalan on the Net; the OS and the domain .CAT (see)
http://puntcat.org
http://www.softcatala.org/wiki/PLL_SectorPublic
http://softcatala.org/wiki/Categoria:Drupal

We have promoted
http://DrupalCAt.org
http://CAPLCAT.org
trying to launch an sponsoring campaign.

Now we have three months to work before start the real open registration, and after study the current situation of the available documentation to translators, collaborators and users; the open technical discussion about what is the best architecture to provide the multi-language solution; i18n module is in technical opinions not up to the task because there are difficulties with translating custom menus and blocks for example; the problems in coordinate our specific translation and the real need of ONE-CLICK DRUPAL multi-language.
A set of sponsors:
Sponsors:
- CONSEN.org
- O4B.org
- MUFICATA.info
- CAPLCAT.org
- DRUPALCAT.org
Has published the DRUPAL CA/EN bid on
http://www.thecentralmall.com/

We hope that DRUPAL DEV community and staff can arrange the technical direction, supervision and certification of the solution provided.

Maybe we can coordinate this in the next DRUPALcon in Vancouver.
In addition we will be very interested in presenting this multi—language solution in a DRUPALcon in BCN simultaneously the eChallenge next fall.

Let enter a new fresh air and ideas in our development community.

PS:
1- What the research and innovation DRUPAL community. There is a EU-FP6-IST-6 call for proposal that fits perfectly in the DRUPAL interest in. What is the persons or group to be addressed)
2- What the DRUPAL Knowledge community to discuss the evolution to a Knowledge Management System.

Help please to correct modules i18n ( http://drupal.org/node/37855#comment-63068 ) and FlexiMAX ( http://drupal.org/node/30376#comment-78330 ) for Drupal-4.7 more quickly

Could someone explain this annoucement in plain english or spanish? I don't get it.

Carlos,
Can I help you?
What is the problem?

I also can't understand well the DRUPAL hispano translations, but it has to integrate Castellano from España with other Español countries current expressions. It is obvious.
But Manejador de Contenidos es un poco extraño de entender por nosotros PERO lo encontarmos lógico que existan estas integraciones del castellaño. No lo crees así?

Well all are efforts.

I get the project but the Drupal part is unclear. What is the outline for the i18n updating of Drupal? (never mind I found this on the website)

"i18n module is in technical opinions not up to the task because there are difficulties with translating custom menus and blocks for example; the problems in coordinate our specific translation and the real need of ONE-CLICK DRUPAL multi-language."

Is one-click a proposal for module or a core update? Is this something where funding will be directed to go into paying a group of developers to specifically render code for i18n core? or is it just a fact finding mission for how deeply disparaged the Hispanic languages are and decide on one solution for Drupal? or both?

I guess I really want know is if the post is asking for bids on a project with a proposal or is it asking for donations to the cause?

We think that all have clear what critical is have a multi-language website and what the web managers needs for building a 2 languages website with DRUPAL.

ONE-CLICK is an additional project promoted by other organization but all that facilitate the installation for all it is always welcomed.

We need the Drupal experts to support in the technical specification about what standards use, architectures, modules, i18-N, Drupal-pot etc,

We need also the Drupal staff to coordinate the project and the to not lose any effort.
We hope that the solution will be so DRUPAL compliant that it can be used for any pair of language.

Our interest is in building a DRUPAL solution for multi-language. In consequence we donate this quantities for these relevant objectives for Drupal.
Obviously that we need the solution for a funded project, for us and for our promotion of the .CAT domain.

I hope a bit more clear,
en Ferran

I can understand most of this if I translate it back to Spanish, but I don't think most other Drupal developers will.

Luckily the person you most need to speak to is Spanish, so you can communicate with him without the language barrier:

Jose A. Reyero

Use his contact tab to get in touch. He's done a lot of work on Drupal's internationalization features.

DRUPALcat.org wants to package a DRUPAL version with two languages, What we have to do?

a) for the core text
b) for the modules not translated
c) for the contents
d) Which architecture of contents are the best
d1) use sections
d2) use pre-fixed tables
d2) use taxonomies

We think that this is the same problem that in Quebec with FR/EN
or in Wales and this can be proposed for he new 4.7 version and future versions, as translators, developers and administrators.
thanks in advance,

To be honest, I do not understand what you have tried to say with that.

I lost my interest in your project because it seemed, at first, something "official", but it isn't. Now it looks to me that your private company is interested to drive drupal initiatives made in catalonia to your "drupalcat" project.

IMHO, all you have to do is:

  1. Learn how the translation tools proposed by drupal work.
  2. Learn how to use the locale/i18n modules.
  3. Help translate anything to catalan, which is something I believe it is already coordinated by softcatala.org.
  4. Help identify and fix bugs, if any, in anything related to drupal.

Or maybe I missed something in what you have said to date, and you're just looking for someone that does this for you?

The best way to learn is by trying it for yourself, in my opinion. Otherwise, I wonder what kind of service will your private company provide when changes are made to drupal core/modules.

As I see it, the catalan community is not so special or different that others. Anything you need is of general interest, specially to anyone that uses/needs the locale/i18n modules.

Good luck ;-)

Doubt is the beginning, not the end of wisdom.

Sorry readers, I'm going to speak a bit of catalan here :)

Ferran, no et pots imaginar la il·lusió que fa això de tenir un puntcat :) :) :)

I'm pretty new to drupal, but I'm from catalonia (it makes me a lot happy to see we have TLD for our language), maybe I can be of some help. Ferran, feel free to contact me through my profile. I'll sure visit the sites you've posted. I was following the progress of the puntcat.org project, but since it was approved there were little news, so I guess this is an oportunity to see where we are. Yay! :)

Maybe the way to go is the i18n module, though if it needs fixes or extensions (to deal with this one-click bi-language functionality), probably this is a good oportunity to do so. But, wait why bi-lang? the thing is probably to make it easy to switch between any number of installed languages, which is what would really benefit everyone.

I should say I tried the i18n module a few weeks ago for a site I was building and finally discarded the idea (it was not a client requirement anyway) due to not being able to make it work correctly. :-? ...but anyway, there is (almost) nothing impossible!

Doubt is the beginning, not the end of wisdom.

i18n module is in technical opinions not up to the task because there are difficulties with translating custom menus and blocks for example;

Technical opinions are, IMHO, not up to date, because these features are already implemented.

After to discuss and meet with some expert and lots of hours of work and studies, we have decided to change our initial strategy.
Now we are seeking for experts to form a evaluation jury, we are promoting and financing the prizes of a set of Drupal related contest.
The professionals/companies that want to participate can reach the feedbacks and the coordination and the direction of the expert.

The aim is to build the new D4.7 b3 Versioning in CA/EN/ES/FA.
How to define the architecture?
How to integrate the developers of modules with the translators?
This is the rules of these concurs in different stages, the teams winners have different prizes.
Do you want to participate?
Are you a candidate for the expert jury?
Are you a participant, in which contest?
Are you proposing a specific contest?
Are you proposing a team competition?
Do you want to write the rules?

We will receive all this proposals in order to start the first concurs for integrating a new 4.7B3 versioning CA/ES/EN/FA the developers/translators works which i18N and the current modules and translations (and themes)
