Is there a way to hide the breadcumb only when viewing a users profile?

Not easily. The theme fails to add appropriate classes to the <body> tag which would make specifying the selectors a piece of cake. Instead, you'll want to use the CSS Injector module to include a stylesheet only when you're viewing a profile page.
