Today in Boston, the Free Software Foundation unveiled the first Discussion Draft of the highly anticipated 'Version 3' update of the ubiquitous GNU GPL license.

The rationale behind the update can be seen in full here. The main thrust of the revision seems to be to stem the tide several new legal threats to free software such as software patents, and digital rights management.
