CCK needs a field type module created to handle file uploads.
At DrupalCon Vancouver, jjeff volunteered to work on this.

MichelleThis gave me an error on the component that was there so I set it to general...
Anyway, I'm just wondering what the status is on this? I need a file field type to be able to use CCK and I'm chomping at the bit. I apologize if this is discussed in another issue as search wasn't getting me anywhere and visually searching the issues got me this old one.
Thanks,
Michelle

MichelleMy understanding is that dopry didn't like the filesystem as it exists and is making a new one and so this is waiting for that to be done. I get the feeling it's not coming very soon, unfortunately.

MichelleIn the mean time, flexinode works and has the ability to add file fields. And now there's talk that flexinode may not be a dead end after all. So I'm just going to keep using flexinode until/if CCK gets sorted out.

RayZ CreditAttribution: RayZ commentedActually, unless I'm mistaken, currently flexinode for drupal 4.7 (and 4.6, for that matter) does not include a file field, though it appears that it is still in head.
MichelleI've been using the file field in flexinode on 4.7 and before that 4.6 for quite some time, so it definitely has one and it works. It's why I still have flexinode installed on my system along with CCK. I need to be able to upload the file(s) into specific fields, not just generically with the upload module.

Ariadoss CreditAttribution: Ariadoss commentedI would like to allow users to attach/upload a file to/with their profile? I don't want to create another field in the user table (I would store the filepath here), so I was thinking of writing a module for it, however if there is already something available that can do this please let me know. The Views, usernodes, and CCK modules are really confusing, there doesn't seem to be a clear example of how they can be used in relation to adding fields such as audio or file (doc/pdf/html in my case) uploads in the /user/#/edit page.
