ajax enabled quicktab content does not update when using popups module

I have both the quicktabs module and the popups module installed. I have some tabbed content inside quicktabs which has some popup enabled links. when i click on one of the links, it fires up a popup with a form in it, and i can then submit the form from the popup. This is all done via the popup modules js / ajax. The popups module should automatically refresh the page behind the popup after the form has been submit.

The problem is that the content in the tab should update after the popup form is submitted, but it doesnt. If i turn the quicktab setting to 'load all content on page load', instead of using the AJAX functionality, the content in the tab updates successfully.
