I guess you are going to allow the creation of a specific field for URLs.

There should be an option to have the output from this field displayed as a redirect. So search engine or visitor will not see the url. They will see something like http://www.mysite/drupal/goto/25 for example. This method could also store and count clicks on the links.
This method allows also to easily configure robots txt to prevent robots engine to follow these redirects.

Here is another suggestion, inspired from what I saw on Ez publish:

All urls entered in the specific URL fields, are stored in the database. Admin can then launch a links check process, that will ping ALL links and store returned status. This way, the admin can easily discover dead links and redirects and modify the links.

These are two cool features that I think would be good additions.
