I don't think backup_migrate can auto reset site to default db? Also it can't conveniently switch different snapshot, as demo did.
please correct me if i'm wrong

Right.

And you can re-install Drupal from a snapshot, see http://drupal.org/project/demo_profile

And soon you can do even more. :)
