Whenever I try to search for at article, nothing comes up.
Is there a fault with the search, or do is there something else I must configure to get the search to return results?

I have the identical problem. Search is activated. Have never had a search via any node render a result.

Even with my EXTREME lack of familiarity with unix stuff, I recalled crontab. Took a wild guess and sure 'nuff ... ya gotta run cron.php to create the index entries. It's not done dynamically.

I just ran it from the command line: http://www.mysite.com/drupaldirectory/cron.php

Blank screen sits there -- apparently while the script runs -- let it sit about 2 minutes and my next search worked!
