Make the ant field a multilingual variable

I tried to setup the ant field as multilingual variable by adding it to the settings.php in my i18n_variables array but this has no effect for what I'm trying to do.

I have a content type for persons and the node title should be created from the fields 'full name" and academic title. Now there is some difference in the way this string is composed. In germany you write the title before the name in english countries you append the title to the name. It would be great to be able to do this in the ant.

Is there any possibility to do this?
