Is it possible to disable the link in terms with 0 items? I don't want to hide them since they act as parent for child terms, as a title of a subcategory.. but I don't want them to be links, because if you click on it, it goes to the taxonomy page for that term and it is blank.

You mean 'shadow' them, turn them gray?
Treemenu's current implementation, agreed, is a sort of intelligent recursion, so it won't remove zero terms with active children. So I agree, there is a case for this.
At one point, Treemenu had code for this. Then I realized this is a VERY no- Drupal way of doing things. However, your case is good. Can't give it high priority though, sorry, so postponing.

I've decided that clicking in taxonomy parent will show also children terms. That's better than a blank page before.
