Please can this module have checkboxes in the admin interface to select which buttons appear on the editor?

This is the only module I have to go hacking about in files to configure.

TinyMCE module already does this, but CK editor is by far the better to use.

This is by design. Until we create some really nice drag&drop solution there is no better way to define CKEditor toolbar.
Theoretically we could provide a textarea in CKEditor profile where toolbars could be defined, but this would be basically the same as adding this information to a file.
The problem with selecting buttons with a checkbox is that this way you cannot organize them in larger groups and into rows, so in many cases the final result would not look well.
