Is it ok to remove the theme credit from the footer? If not, are there any other alternatives to show the theme credit
in different styles so it doesn't stand out so much in my footer?

You can change the css of it.

But it is necessary to keep it to give the credit to those who developed the theme. The original author of the theme has posted,

Colourise is a free, W3C-compliant, CSS-based website template by styleshout.com. This work is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License, which means that you are free to use and modify it for any purpose. All I ask is that you give me credit by including a link back to my website.
