This error occurs both in trying to view a map and in the "Center & Bounds" section of Presets.
I tried with the base layer OSM Mapnik and Google Maps and both result in error. Two attached screen shots.
It works fine in Firefox. I find a lot of things work fine outside of Internet Explorer 8.
Thanks.

itserich CreditAttribution: itserich commentedThink this is a related problem.
Node fileld: Field Type - OpenLayers WKT, Widget Type - OpenLayers Geocoder
Autocompletion is set to populate text field with [street_address].
Autocompletion does not occur in IE8, and does occur in Firefox.
Also map displaying location does not appear in IE8, with the same error noted above, which is why I think the two problems are related.
The IE8 OpenLayers WKT does populate itself. I simply need a way to display it in a viewed node, for now.

itserich CreditAttribution: itserich commentedEDIT - And the Winner is: IE Unlimited CSS Loader, at least for now.
Installed IE Unlimited CSS Loader and IE CSS Optimizer and both the map display and autocomplete problems appear to be resolved.
Not sure which module does what, but so far so good.

Maybe this should be added to the docs ?

itserich CreditAttribution: itserich commentedI have since learned there appears to be a built in CSS optimizer at Site Configuration -> Performance so perhaps that is why this is not a common problem.
A side note, it appears Antonio is a/the mantainer for OL Proximity and IE Unlimited CSS.

scalp CreditAttribution: scalp commentedThank you so much for figuring this out! I would suggest not only mentioning the problem in the docs, but include the links or project name of the unlimited CSS module. Saved my day and I didn't figure it out from reading the docs.

IE 7 -> LOG: [object Error]
IE 8 -> Error: Invalid argument.
when trying see a map and in fact, after download and enable: IE Unlimited CSS Loader those problems were solved!

lucidus_neil CreditAttribution: lucidus_neil commentedNot sure if I should file a separate ticket for this but this is for 7.x. I'm having exactly the same problem described here but the css is already aggregated through Drupal 7 performance tab. The problem only happens in IE8 and IE9. If I disable the layer with my data, the Google Map (or Mapquest Map for that matter) will come up. As soon as I turn on the layer with my locations, it breaks (but only in IE). I've tried disabling all locations and then adding them one by one thinking it might be bad data in one of them but it's when any of them are added.

chris_h CreditAttribution: chris_h commentedI'm getting the same errors since an upgrade from 7.x-2.0-beta1+46-dev to the latest dev (7.x-2.0-beta1+76-dev).
IE developer tools say:
LOG: TypeError: Object doesn't support this property or method
Invalid argument. OpenLayers.js, line 179 character 18
Any ideas? As with Lucidus, CSS/JS is aggregated. The geofield map equivalents work fine.

chris_h CreditAttribution: chris_h commentedThis was being caused by clientside_validation module - http://drupal.org/node/1776242
