Hi,

I need a module like upload.module but I want to be able to use the taxonomy system so that files can be placed in sections. So basically I want a module similar to forum.module that alows uploads. It needs to upload the files to /files and then into a directory that corresponds to the taxonomy area it is in.

I am willing to give someone $10 through paypal if you can do this for me.

Thanks,
Zed

Hell, I just paid $12 for a medium pizza. You want to pay someone less than that for programming?

You just got ripped off, I can get a large pizza for $7.50.
Well as far as I can see, the people who have released all the modules on the download page haven't got anything for it.
You'll also note that most people want everything for free i'm at least willing to give something.

My $12 pizza was very good pizza.

I can't speak for everyone but most people contribute to the code base not because they want to help other people out of the kindness of their hearts, but because they know they will directly benefit from it. By having everyone share their own code and effort, everyone wins.

And the code they write isn't written for someone else, it's for themselves. That's the proverbial "scratch you own itch" syndrome that Eric Raymond wrote about in the Cathedral and the Bazaar. Someone wrote the subscription module, the event module, etc. because they needed it for their own site or they wanted to build their consulting business.

But, who knows, you might get some kid just learning PHP who will take your $10 and "his first paying gig." But coming from a union background, I'd encourage him not to sell his work for a handful of bread crumbs. That's why craftsmen organized themselves 100 years ago. They wanted to protect their wages and trades from the infiltration of inferior workers who charged a pittance for their efforts.

I'd also like to see this module written: uploaded files get assigned taxonomy terms. Seems easy enough. Now there are $20 at stake. 2 pizzas, depending on where you order them.

IMNHO this is exactly how it works. The "scratch your own itch" is what is in progress right here. A person have a problem and solves it by buying the service.

If I have a programming related problem I solve them my self. But if I have problem with my car I pay somebody to do it since that person is probably going to do it faster and better. Although I agree that the award is way to low in this case.

Back to the original question. If zed and robertDouglass haven't found any programmer yet I can take the assignment. Contact me on ullgren@users.sourceforge.net and we can discuss the award and terms of the assignment.

I was saying $10 was awfully low.

Hi,

not coming from any union background, nor eating cheap or expancive pizza's I run my own drupal services buisiness. And i give consutancy for free. Yes, that is scratching my own itch, because it is my marketing strategy, if you'd name it that.

Zed, I think offering money will only work, as sayd, if you really hire someone. The services page is there for that. And don't be surprised to be paying the default freelance wage.

But, as said, consultancy is free: I would, if I were you, offer something much better that a free pizza ;). Offer your knowledge, time and your ideas. Those are much higher rewards for some people adnd it saves you money.

What I suggest is that you take on flexinode module. Flexinode offers all that you want, for free.

But flexinode is not yet stable and finished. It needs help. You could write a howto on fileuploads, for example. Once you publish that you can say: "look, people, I wrote a howto, including this and that. But I found some bugs. Can some coder pleasee squash these for me?" I am sure that some people will. (I for example are in need of a good howto for a client, telling step-by-step how to add an article with pictures and files, but have no time to sort that out. I do have some time, however to squash found bugs).

With kind regards,

Thanks Ber,
I'm using the flexinode module and it's great.
I was wondering if it is possible for it to display the posts like the forum module does on ?q=forum
That would be my perfect download area if I could.

Thanks again,
Zed

use a taxonomy browser module for this. for example taxonomy_dhtml (not up to date) or taxonomy_browser seem to come close to what you want.
Another option is to use article.module, it is not like forum, but might be even better for a downlaod area.
