Expanding 2 menu's together

I have a view with a path viewpath/term1/term2 where term1 and term2 are from 2 different taxonomies/menus (I'm using taxonomy menu & menu block together).

I'm finding that the menu from the first term expands and is set to active correctly but not the second menu for term2. Would there be a way to tell a menu block which argument to get value from to set the active menu item - I guess this would be specific to use the said menu block with a given view and would probably something in the menu block config. I would be happy to write this as an extension to the current config screen if needs be tho I'm a little new to module writing.
