jquery cycle doesn't support it so another plugin would have to be made with a javascript plugin that supports ken burns effects. Maybe be better to create one with support for version 3 of views_slideshow.

@krainsong according to redndahead's comment, you'd have more chances if you spoke with the jquery cycle plugin author directly (http://jquery.malsup.com/cycle).

that's because Views Slideshow pulls the effects from the plugin and organizes them in a view.

try looking at the original cycle plugin code; hopefully you can make your own transition. I know that ken burns are accomplished by fiddling with hue & saturation - but not much beyond that, sorry.

There is a plugin that provides this functionality, but I am not sure if this will work with views slideshow:
http://tobia.github.com/CrossSlide/

There is also a drupal module whicht adds a field formatter for this: http://drupal.org/project/field_image_crossslide

Support for Views Slideshow 6.x is mostly deprecated (ie bug fixes and major errors may be looked at and security issues, but not really anything else), so closing.
